Easing crude oil prices lifted shares of Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) 76 cents to $10.85 and US Airways Group Inc. (NYSE: LCC) 78 cents to $9.07.



Urban Outfitters Inc. (Nasdaq: URBN) disappointed with lower fourth quarter earnings that fell short of expectations as expenses climbed. Shares of the retailer plunged $5.94 to $32.05.  
China Security & Surveillance Technology Inc. (NYSE: CSR) received a $6.50 per share cash offer from former chairman and chief executive Guoshen Tu to take the company private sending the stock price soaring $1.24 to $5.34.

Ford Recalls Ranger

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) recalled approximately 24,000 Ranger pickup trucks for possible leakage of their fuel systems. Shares of the automaker lost 41 cents to close at $14.01.


Semiconductor Sector Downgraded

Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD) fell 39 cents to close at $8.84 and Micron Technology (Nasdaq: MU) dropped 61 cents to close at $11.03 after Wells Fargo Securities analyst David Wong downgraded the semiconductor sector.

James River Coal Co. (Nasdaq: JRCC) will pay approximately $475 million in cash to acquire International Resource Partners lifting the stock price $2.96 to close at $23.21. 

 

 


 

Ciena Widens Losses

Ciena Corp. (Nasdaq: CIEN) widened first quarter losses to 84 cents per share from 58 cents per share in the year ago period and forecast second quarter results below expectations sending the stock price tumbling $3.12 to $25.69.

Western Digital Corp. (NYSE: WDC) will purchase the hard disk drive business of Hitachi in a cash and stock deal valued at approximately $4.3 billion. The stock price surged $3.59 to $33.60.

Accuray Inc. (Nasdaq: ARAY) will pay approximately $277 million in cash and stock to acquire TomoTherapy Inc. (Nasdaq: TOMO). Shares of Accuray fell $1.00 to $9.01 while TomoTherapy stock climbed 89 cents to $4.56.


 

BioSante Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: BPAX) announced a registered direct offering of approximately 12.2 million common shares sending the stock price down 17 cents to close at $1.98.



Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) will present at the Media Briefing at Pittcon on March 14, 2011 and at the Barclays Capital 2011 Global Healthcare Conference on March 16, 2011. The stock price soared $3.93 to close at $46.75.

Shares of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) continued rising by adding 29 cents to close at $5.66 over yesterday's rumor that a Chinese firm was considering acquiring the telecommunications equipment maker.

JDS Uniphase Corp. (Nasdaq: JDSU) will present its optical communications and communications test and measurement portfolio solutions at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference in Los Angeles next week. The stock price climbed $1.89 to $27.03.



Marvell Falls Short

Fourth quarter earnings rose for Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (Nasdaq: MRVL) to 33 cents per share from 31 cents per share a year earlier but the results fell short of expectations sending the stock price down $1.74 to $16.48.
RAM Energy Resources Inc. (Nasdaq: RAME) announced the drilling of additional wells at its Mississippi Chat formation lifting the stock price 31 cents to $2.19.

Wendy's/Arby's Narrows Losses

Wendy's/Arby's Group Inc. (NYSE: WEN) narrowed fourth quarter losses and suggested that selling its Arby's brand would positively impact earnings sending the stock price up 36 cents to close at $5.10.




USA Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: USAT) announced a record 6.4 million small-ticket transactions representing $10.3 million processed in February 2011. The stock price surged 72 cents to close at $2.50. 

Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO) forecast first quarter results well ahead of analyst estimates lifting the stock price $2.08 to close at $28.98.

Amylin's Bydureon Disappoints

Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: AMLN), Eli Lilly & Co. (NYSE: LLY) and Alkermes Inc. (Nasdaq: ALKS) reported disappointing results from their once a week diabetes treatment Bydureon. Shares of Amylin plummeted $3.50 to $11.51 while Eli Lilly stock edged up 10 cents to $34.38. Alkermes stock dropped $1.70 to $12.40.

ZAGG Inc. (Nasdaq: ZAGG) introduced a complete line of accessories for Apple Inc.'s (Nasdaq: AAPL) new iPad 2. Shares of ZAGG climbed $1.22 to $8.29 while Apple stock soared $6.10 to $358.22.

 


BioSante Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: BPAX) reported positive results from a Phase II trial of its pancreatic cancer vaccine lifting the stock price 23 cents to $2.26. 

 

Six Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) flight attendants who formerly worked for Northwest Airlines sued Delta after receiving lower profit sharing checks due to a union dispute sending the stock price down 46 cents to close at $10.15.



Royale Energy Sells Assets

Royale Energy Inc. (Nasdaq: ROYL) sold certain assets in Kern County, California but retained royalty on the acreage. The stock price climbed $1.17 to close at $7.83.

AIG Sells Stake In MetLife

|

American International Group Inc. (NYSE: AIG) will sell its stake in MetLife Inc. (NYSE: MET) for approximately $10 billlion in order to repay the government. AIG stock rose 60 cents to close at $37.30 while shares of MetLife tumbled $2.63 to close at $43.41.

Weatherford International Ltd. (NYSE: WFT) must restate earnings from 2007 through 2010 by approximately $500 million sending the stock price tumbling $2.12 to $21.40.



Hudson City Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: HCBK) warned that it may be compelled to raise capital by federal regulators. The stock price fell 91 cents to $9.99.
Investopedia listed Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) among the top five performing technology stocks in February lifting the stock price 32 cents to $5.04. 

ReneSola's Forecast Disappoints

ReneSola Ltd. (NYSE: SOL) reversed year ago losses of 33 cents per American Depositary Share to post a profit for the fourth quarter of 69 cents per American Depositary Share but forecast 2011 results below expectations due to increased competition. Shares of the solar products company tumbled $1.85 to close at $9.20.



Central European Distribution Corp. (Nasdaq: CEDC) blamed increased impairment charges for widening fourth quarter losses. Shares of the alchoholic beverages firm plummeted $8.52 to close at $14.33.

The U. S. government awarded Novavax Inc. (Nasdaq: NVAX) a contract valued at up to $179 million to develop pandemic and seasonal recombinant flu vaccines. Novavax also licensed its proprietary recombinant virus-like-paricle vaccine technology to LG Life Sciences to develop and commericialize vaccines in South Korea. The stock price climbed 36 cents to close at $2.96.

SEC Subpoenas Las Vegas Sands

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS) received a subpoena from the Securities and Exchange Commission for documents related to compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act sending the stock price tumbling $3.36 to $43.29.


Boston Scientific Upgraded

|

RBC Capital Markets cited new products for upgrading Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE: BSX). The stock price rose 44 cents to $7.60.

Sonus Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS) reported higher fourth quarter earnings that topped analyst estimates sending the stock price soaring $1.06 to $4.09.
