Hologic Inc. (Nasdaq: HOLX) reversed year ago losses of $9.01 per share to post a second quarter profit of 8 cents per share that met expectations and forecast third quarter results below estimates prompting a downgrade. The stock price tumbled $2.10 to close at $16.01.

Vivus Inc. (Nasdaq: VVUS) reported that its experimental weight loss medication Qnexa also lowered blood pressure in patients. Shares of the biopharmaceutical climbed $1.43 to $11.75.
Shares of CombinatoRx Inc. (Nasdaq: CRXX) continued soaring by adding 16 cents to close at $1.85 after a MarketWatch commentary yesterday spotlighted the biopharmaceutical and suggested that it may be an acquisition target.

Beazer To Offer Shares

Beazer Homes USA Inc. (NYSE: BZH) swung to a second quarter profit of 9 cents per share from a loss of $2.97 per share in the year ago period but the homebuilder also announced an offering of 12.5 million common shares. The stock price tumbled 97 cents to $5.91.

Nutrisystem Tops Estimates

First quarter earnings and revenue for Nutrisystem Inc. (Nasdaq: NTRI) surpassed expectations sending shares of the weight management company soaring $3.74 to $22.24.


Powerwave Upgraded

Despite reporting an unexpected first quarter loss of 8 cents per share compared with a loss of 3 cents per share last year, analysts upgraded Powerwave Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: PWAV) citing an improved outlook. Shares of the wireless solutions company rose 8 cents to $1.87.

New York Stock Exchange notified Ambac Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: ABK) that it regained compliance with the minimum listing requirement of $1.00 per share sending the stock price up 22 cents to close at $1.73.

CapitalSource Widens Losses

CapitalSource Inc. (NYSE: CSE) widened first quarter losses to 66 cents per share from a loss of 36 cents per share a year earlier as loan loss provisions soared. The stock price tumbled 63 cents to close at $5.34.

Doral Financial Downgraded

Cantor Fitzgerald downgraded Doral Financial Corp. (NYSE: DRL) to a Sell rating after the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. seized and sold the banking operations of three Puerto Rican banks on Friday. Shares of the Puerto Rican bank plummeted $1.90 to close at $3.49.

 

A chemical compound made by Nalco Holding Co. (NYSE: NLC) that breaks down oil is being tested on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The stock price climbed $1.97 to $26.70.

BP (NYSE: BP) pledged to pay for all costs to clean up the massive oil spill from the Deepwater Horizon well in the Gulf of Mexico. Shares of the oil company continued to fall by tumbling another $3.76 to $48.39.


 

Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. (NYSE: JTX) amended its credit agreement and eliminated 15% of its workers sending the stock price soaring 50 cents to $2.18.
