Shares of Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) surged $9.20 to close at $28.38 after Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) made an unsolicited offer of $44.6 billion to buy the largest Internet portal whose shares had recently fallen to a four-year low. Microsoft stock dropped $2.15 to close at $30.45.
