Surprise Increase In Jobless Claims Weighs Down Markets

A surprise increase in first time jobless claims weighed the markets down to a lower close with the Dow falling 58 points to 10,319. Nasdaq dropped 18 points to 2190.

On the upside

India based online travel agency MakeMyTrip (Nasdaq: MMYT) made its debut on Nasdaq by soaring more than 88%.

Shares of RealPage (Nasdaq: RP) soared on its first trading day.

Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) and the Inter-Pacific Bar Association settled lawsuits filed against each other with a confidential agreement.

On the downside

Vermillion (Nasdaq: VRML) narrowed second quarter losses but the stock price plunged.

Second quarter losses narrowed for ICOP Digital (Nasdaq: ICOP) but shares of the video surveillance products company dropped.

China Nepstar Chain Drugstore (NYSE: NPD) swung to a loss for the second quarter.

In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 7 to 5 on the NYSE and by nearly 3 to 2 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks slipped 3 points to 616.
