Economic Optimism Lifts Markets

Optimism about the economic recovery lifted the markets modestly higher during the midday with the Dow gaining 38 points to 9903. Nasdaq rose 7 points to 2146.

On the upside 

Sinoenergy (Nasdaq: SNEN) will be taken private by Skywide Capital Management.

MDRNA (Nasdaq: MRNA) reported that its UsiRNA reduced tumor growth in liver and bladder cacer models.

Lenders to YRC Worldwide (Nasdaq: YRCW) extended certain credit provisions for the transportation services company.

On the downside

BluePhoenix Solutions (Nasdaq: BPHX) raised approximately $4.2 million through a private placement.

Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) and Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) unveiled a new software package available on line on a subscription basis to assist small and mid-size companies manage their customer relations.

Shares of NetEase.com (Nasdaq: NTES) fell after the Chinese government banned foreigners from investing in its online gaming industry.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 2 to 1 on the NYSE and by more than 9 to 7 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks added 2 points to 617.
