Upbeat Jobs Report Lifts Markets

Investors embraced an upbeat jobs report to lift the markets higher during the midday with the Dow gaining 30 points to 9577. Nasdaq rose 9 points to 2070.

On the upside 

Third quarter earnings for NCI Building Systems (NYSE: NCS) fell but the results topped estimates.

Morgan Stanley upgraded RadioShack (NYSE: RSH).

A union of YRC Worldwide (Nasdaq: YRCW) agreed to pay and pension cuts to avoid closure of the unit.

On the downside

Although second quarter earnings for Men's Wearhouse (NYSE: MW) beat expectations, the company forecast disappointing third quarter results.

Jaguar Mining (NYSE: JAG) announced a private placement of approximately $110 million in senior convertible notes.

Citibank analyst Yaron Werber downgraded AMAG Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: AMAG). 

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 5 to 3 on the NYSE and by nearly 5 to 4 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks added 2 points to 589.
